Sounds like nothing more than lip service to me. "closely monitoring", "very concerned", "agreed to provide information", and "raised this issue" are hallmarks of bureauatic time-wasting. Probably nothing more than half a dozen phone calls and/or a couple of conversations at cocktail parties.

How's this for a financing scandal the Commerce Department can investigate:

My buddy's company has a segment not doing well, the segment in competition with me. Everybody's losing money. My stock's on the verge of collapse. His ain't so hot, either.

Get this: with some upfront cash given to ME, I take over his money-losing factories. I give out a few stock warrants and dilute my stock some more. Another buddy finds out and wants the same deal, so he gets a little, too. Somehow the PR department casts this as a purchase.

We all go to consecutive conferences in Southwest US and talk up the industry, pumping the newly issued stock of a money-sucking company to skyhigh prices while the industry has a slight seasonal reprieve.

My buddies sell their stock for a big profit.

Now we go and seek antitrust protection against the Korean cabals.
