Forgive me in advance...I haven't read all of today's posts on this thread. But it is obvious that we have the same problem on this thread that you can see elsewhere on SI. No wonder AOL stock is tanking, when it should be going up on what is really good news for investors. Many people posting on the Internet and on SI have a complete and total misunderstanding of the Microsoft/AOL/AT&T situation, and then we have a few wise people like Steeny trying to clear it up. Everyone on this thread who does not do so already should, each and every morning, go to the following website (especially today, where there are three or four big stories about this situation) and read the in-depth coverage of companies such as AOL, Microsoft and the rest of the techs.washingtonpost.com (Business section) I have worn myself out in the last 24 hours on another thread trying to straighten some people out about AOL's mission and goals and, lately, wisdom. FAct: AOL does not need to purchase any cable company anywhere and wisely did not participate in the Media One thing, thereby saving bundles for investors, who instead of cheering are wailing and selling off their stock. The CEO of T has already stated publicly that he is happy to work with AOL to give AOL the cable access it wants. T reportedly will have access to 60 percent of the homes in the U.S. AOL needs more than that---AOL subscribers are nationwide. Do you really think AOL should go out a buy "a" cable company? No....AOL needs the legislation that was introduced in Congress, supposedly this week by a Virginia congressman, to open access to cable lines to companies like AOL. And by the way, some areas of the U.S. have no cable access at all, but I'll bet there are plenty of AOL customers living in those areas. Today's Washington Post reports that the feds have generally not stood in the way of consolidation in the cable, phone, internet industry, so I have faith that T will get this deal done and be a nice business contact for Steve Case. If you need more than I've already said, go to my profile on SI and read what I have posted elsewhere on this topic. Meanwhile, best to read the Washington Post every morning before pushing buy and sell buttons on your computer. Sorry if I sound grumpy, but uninformed investors are hurting my stock. Knowledge is power.
