AOL appoints broadband content leader

America Online today took another step in its broadband efforts, appointing an entertainment executive to lead the content development.

Robert Harris, who was named executive producer of broadband for AOL, will head up development of broadband content, including creation and acquisition of programming, product development, and management of standing relationships, the company said. Harris's department will manage video, audio, and graphics programming for users with high-speed Net access.

I don't understand why you, and others, keep narrowly thinking that there will be one broadband winner. Wrong! There will be many, many winners--cable, DSL and wireless (to some extent). The potential reach of each broadband delivery system is limited geographically. The demand is extremely high and there will be several successful providers of high speed access.

Correct! The narrow thinking is coming from those that spout broadband (in any flavor, cable in particular) is the end of AOL. Hogwash ... the battle for the "last mile" has yet to be won.

While the infastructure scrambles to keep up with demand, AOL will continue to deliver compelling content and growth.

.Com Well, this is what I'm talking about! You are correct that I don't know THAT much about ATHM, and that is why I asked for people to please respond and/or correct my comments :) Could you please expand on the cable upgrading part...how successful had ATHM been with these upgrades? Are they cost effective?

As for having many winners in the broadband game, I think that AOL has the upper hand with whatever they offer because of the huge customer base. ATT and anyone else will have a darn hard time catching up to that.
