The £ has done better than the Euro since its launch - unfortunately for the UK when it comes to join in 2001, the £ will be pegged too high. Maybe these and similar purchases of the Euro as a reserve currency will help move it back up.

I think that for a long-term investor gold would be good but not until these state sales are coming to an end.

I hope it doesn't include the Nazi gold rumoured to be in the Bank of England vaults. Too bad the price will be dropping as Holocuast victims and their families are about due for a pay-out from gold sales in Switzerland.
