Burr-Brown introduces single-chip dual analog frontend
for HDSL

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Burr-Brown Corp. today announced a new dual analog frontend IC which it said
increases reliability, reduces component count, and lowers manufacturing costs in high-speed Digital
Subscriber Line (DSL) applications.

The AFE2124 is optimized for HDSL (High-bit-rate DSL), which is widely used for T1/E1
data-transfer services, LAN extenders, and Internet servers. In these applications, the AFE2124
provides all the analog circuitry, including drivers, needed to connect two HDSL digital signal
processors (DSPs) to line transformers.

"The dual AFE2124 replaces standard two-chip designs with a single chip solution. As a result, this
chip reduces system complexity, lowers handlingcost, and increases reliability," said C.R. Teeple,
DSL strategic marketing manager at Burr-Brown. "In addition to the advantages gained from single
chip integration, the AFE2124 features low power dissipation of 250 milliwatts per channel and low
cost-per-channel."

Features include scaleable data rate (64- to 1,168 kilobits per second operation), transmit power
boost, and single 5-volt supply operation.

The AFE2124 is priced from $18 in 1,000-piece quantities and housed in a 48-pin SSOP package.
Delivery is from stock.
