Shane - " PB, to save me looking it up, when did SEMATECH start looking at Cu interconnects? AMD have people seconded to SEMATECH."

Don't know exactly off hand, probably mid 90's sometime. But assigning a SEMATECH engineer or two, and having a full-blown in house Development program are two entirely different animals, IMHO.

"About the Dresden fab - AMD are saying that it is built from the ground up for Cu, but IBM recently said that no special containment strategies are used by them. So probably AMD have the Cu deposition, CMP and clean in their own area of the cleanroom, but it probably isn't 'special' in any other way. The 'pods' AMD will use are normal SMIF pods used in highly auotmated fabs."

Thanks for the input on this. I don't believe F30 will have a layout that will be terribly exotic, i.e., some walls.
