I saw an article in a swedish paper recently dealing with Ericsson's positioning system for 911 calls and VAMS in sweden.

Ericsson has some kind of deal with US-omnipoint for this but I haven't seen or heard anything for a long time. Anyone?

Ericsson to supply mobile communication equipment for Guangdong GSM expansion

Date: Monday, May 10 1999

Ericsson and China Telecom (Hong Kong) Ltd. have signed a contract valued at USD 290 million (SEK 2,416 million) to supply Guangdong Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. with GSM mobile equipment for further expansion of their GSM network in the Guangdong province.
The project, scheduled to begin in June and be completed early in the year 2000, will bring the Guangdong Mobile Communications Co., Ltd (GMCC) network subscriber capacity to close to 8 million subscribers.

GMCC today has over 4 million subscribers and is the largest mobile operator in China. This new expansion project is in response to accelerating demand for mobile service and follows on the heels of a major expansion in 1998 - a contract also awarded to Ericsson.
Guangdong is considered to be one of China's economically most well developed provinces and to have one of the country's most advanced communication networks. Ericsson has been supplying mobile equipment and services to GMCC since 1987, during which time, through their long-term commitment to each other, the two companies have built up a relationship of mutual trust and goodwill.

Ericsson is the leading provider in the new telecoms world, with communications solutions that combine telecom and datacom technologies with freedom of mobility for the user. With more than 100,000 employees in 140 countries, Ericsson simplifies communications for its customers - network operators, service providers, enterprises and consumers - the world over.
