Intel Loves StrongARM
From:
CSN May 10-14, 1999

Intel is taking pains to reassure the market
that it really does care about StrongARM,
even if it was inherited from DEC. In fact,
one of its managers calls it "the next most
important thing" after Intel's standard fare,
which might get him in dutch with his net-work
and flash colleagues. Intel is promis-ing
its next StrongARM generation will
deliver two-three times the performance of
what they've got now while keeping power
consumption below a half a watt. Due to
sample in 1H00, the widgets should be
worth 150MHz to 600MHz, perform at 185-
750 MIPS and consume only 40mW-450mW.
They'll be done on a 0.18 process.

<However it does not say anything which we already didn't know>

I did not know that the L2 cache would be clock/2 instead of clock/3.

Re: "Thanks for the post. It looks somewhat legit"

Did you notice that it was called an unsubstantiated rumor from "psycho_clown"? Pardon me if I am somewhat skeptical.

Mani,

we are producing K7-based systems for HP

I wonder why HP doesn't wait a few weeks for Merced, like Intel's management promised?
