You might take a look at this:

tpc.org

It is the top 10 TPC-C by price/performance. Guess what? They are all Intel machines, all 10 of the top 10. In fact 59 of the top 60 are Intel machines.

I would conclude your experience is wrong.

I agree with both you and Elmer. You have said what I previously couldn't put into words. Running Microsoft-compatible software is a huge incentive for Xeon-based servers and workstations because they're cheaper, much more available, and not low-volume proprietary stuff. (From an MS-centric view, of course. If you choose not to be assimilated by Microsoft, there's always UNIX like Linux, SCO, Solaris, etc.)

This is the trail that Intel is blazing. AMD wants to follow a few steps behind Intel, then take the prize right out of Intel's hands with the K7. Of course, it's not like Intel will just hand it over, or even let AMD keep the prize should they succeed.
