'm sure to some this labels me a true illiterate.

No. But it makes me feel a great pity for you. Anybody who hasn't tasted the joys of Austen, Hardy, Bronte, Keats, Shelley, T.S.Eliot, is more to be pitied than censured.

Happened to have an appointment with a new (to me) cardiologist today. I was in the middle of re-re-re-re-reading Henry IV Part I, so took it in with me. Was taking advantage of a nice half hour alone in the quiet exam room when the doc came in. He had trouble keeping himself in control -- said it was the first time in over 20 years of practice he had had a patient reading Shakespeare in his exam room. I said he needed a better class of patient.
