Jing Qian re:

" As a @Home subscriber, I can tell you cable access is completely and absolutely phone
line FREE. It requires no dialing and checking password. It's always on, 24 hours a day.
And it's lightening fast."

AMEN to that! I just got hooked up with @Home yesterday. The speed is incredible! It took me one minute to download a file that took me over an hour with my old ISP. I love it.

I have to Disagree with you...
Ok you have Cable access and yes its fast...
How many in your range are using the service????

As more start using it within your neighborhood
the speed Decreases.... I sure wish I had the PC
Magazine Issue that explains all this....

Example your area may have 400 people...
If 20 people only signed up for it yes you get speed.
However when the other 380 decide even if only 150
decide to subscribe , you will see your speed decrease...

Prove me wrong ....

Jing Qian,
Please clarify, many ATHM subscribers are complaining vehemetly about the way 1 Mbps slows to >56kbps when everyone else in the neighborhood lights it up. Are you not having that problem? Also, when you say cable is "inherently" less expensive to deploy, what do you base that on? Lastly, now that T has stated that they want to put RBOC's out of business by taking the only product they sell(phone service) by you really believe they will roll over and play dead? I am equally long AOL and ATHM so I have no ax to grind. Thanks, D.H.

Well, I do use AOL, but maybe the question should be...
How much of the population HAS cable?
And will these AOL people want to switch AND pay for the cable installation. MAny people do not have cable!

I use Internet Explorer and have it check for mail every 30 seconds...therefore I am on all the time!! :-)
