"God utters me like a word containing a partial thought of himself.

A word will never be able to comprehend the voice that utters it."

Thomas Merton - "New Seeds of Contemplation"

Crow - I liked the whole progression and felt obliged to pass this on...

The Slave

In purple haze the sun has set,

A tuft of palms, a Minaret,

Rise clear against the sky.

The silence of the scented air

Stirs to a sense of evening prayer

At the muezzin's cry.

What care have I, that yesterday

I led thee as a slave away

From Maroc's market-place?

Are we not all the slaves of love?

The very stars that wheel above

Are bound by time and space!

I struck the fetters from thy hands

Only to forge thee stronger bands;

Leastways, 'twas my desire

To hold thy captive soul to me,

Even as mine is chained to thee,

By links of passionate fire.

I want thee for thy beauty's sake,

Though naught, as owner, will I take;

Thou art entirely free.

Yet, if thy gaze of sombre fire

Find aught in me to wake desire

Then give thyself to me!

R.I.P.tide

Alki Point
Seattle
July 24'99

it was time

he looked around one last time
knowing what that meant-
never to come back
home,
he didn't want to leave.

the whole time
she gave him unconditional love
and set him free
and free of pain of dying
[liver cancer is so evil]
he squeezed her hand
and began his journey
alone
leaving with a lasting smile.

too early in years
too soon to be forever
peace is what you wished for
peace is what you have

we all died alittle when you went Jim
now at Alki she holds remnants one last time
[you-forever in her heart]
and takes...gives you back where you wanted-
to enter the primordial waters
and be one with another true love-the Sound-
emerald aqua cold blue tranquility blending the evening's grey mourning clouds
a silent prayer given
last words whispered
a gull cries......
the same water- a tear in a wave
the riptide carries you off
there to join others --
our stone angel neighbors an angel-terra-cotta preceeding-
[Loretta-we were awe struck and wished love and blessings-
you are not alone]
a small shrine in a rose hedge overlooking the end,
the beginning
and
watched
tossed flowers blossom
and spread across
your neptune
home sea home

she looked around one last time
knowing what that meant
someday to come back
alone
she didn't want to leave

it was time.

a smolt suddenly jumped
a sure sign of a bigger fish chasing-
i smiled,
God speed bro.
