Why do you think the future is in set-top boxes?

Do you realize that PC penetration in households is now at >50%? The remaining market, (for non-PC alternatives) is a market that will be ever SHRINKING.

Do you honestly think that anybody is going to give up a PC for a set-top box?

I do think there is a future for set-top boxes, but NOT as a replacement for a PC. In fact, I think that owners of PCs are the most likely candidates to also own set-top boxes - IF the cable companies don't totally screw it up.

The set-top box will be used for quick jaunts onto web sites when the owner just happens to be sitting in front of the TV, and for extending the TV-watching experience. (Schedules, additional information on news and information programs, background on movies, etc.)

It's quite possible that the cable industry will misunderstand this, however.

M, I'm not too worried about AOL at this point. When AOL starts losing customers instead of adding millions more, I'll begin to worry. I feel confident that AOL will solve its high speed internet access problem soon enough, and it would not surprise me to see that solution manifest itself in the form of a strategic alliance between AOL and T/ATHM.

Cheers.
