I didn't mean that it is imperative to have a classical education. I do think that a classical education can add meaning and depth to a person's life though. This is its merit.

I so enjoy reading Henry James that I commend him to everyone!

I think that's what we are talking about. What works go into the pile of "main classics," and what merely go into the pile of "well rounded"? Christopher may have raised the bar, but I don't think anyone would say that Steven King nor Steven Hawkings are "main classics," except in jest.
