Can anyone point to sites or information that would flesh this out?

JS,
Way back there, on this thread, are some pretty good discussions on data over powerlines. Very generally, I think we concluded that because of how power is distributed here in the US, it's not a feasible alternative. But in Europe it has more promise. The details are back there. Maybe someone has a link to it?

I know one of us Mike's, who follow this thread, had some strong feelings it may be a viable alternative route into the home. He may have the posts bookmarked? I also recollect, Nortel has some products for this sector. Maybe the Nortel website has some more details?

I wish SI had better search engines and I would find it for you.

JS, thought you'd like to know I'm presently working on a project for an electric utility in Kentucky (sorry I can't be more specific due to legalities) to provide telephony and broadband services to overbuild the incumbent cable and phone companies. They are building a new broadband HFC network separately from their power lines. But the key is that they have all the poles to attach to, all the ROW issues taken care of up front, and access to all the homes through their power interface. But a separate network is being built.
