It is true at current network architecture that ATM Switch is core. But with increasing demand on bandwidth, people are looking into a different technology that will help the bandwidth efficiency and less cost. With high speed router comes into market. It fits into description of providing more bandwidth efficiency with much less cost. So, more and more people will look into this possibility for resolving current network bandwidth problems. ATM has its own merit in that it is easy for billing and traffic control. It is very good for dsl and modem dial in type of traffic. This is way of majority population accessing internet. So, it is making good sense use it at edge of network. This is a huge business with very good margin in it. MPLS is new boy in town and need time to be mature. Only time will tell. Cheers! Mike
