Yes. These anti-gun measures seem more a factor of comforting people by "doing" something rather than making the more sweeping changes which would be necessary to really get at the root of the problem in the first place. JLA

halfscot, the article is fascinating, and although guns are not my issue, I may read the book myself...

I wonder how Clinton's gun locks would have helped this woman?

Florida Woman Kills Stalker

HEATHROW, Fla. (AP) -- A greenskeeper who stalked a woman for months was shot and killed by the woman after he entered her home with a handgun and rope.

Donald Cook had repeatedly called Elizabeth MaGruder, spying on her with binoculars and skulking behind bushes as she golfed.

On Monday, he entered her home in an upscale gated community. Cook pulled a .25-caliber handgun from his waist and aimed it at Mrs. MaGruder's husband.

Mrs. MaGruder, 50, ran to a linen closet and got a gun. When Cook burst through the door, she fired her .38-caliber revolver once at close range and hit him in the chest, authorities said.

Cook fired back five times, hitting Mrs. MaGruder in the abdomen and wrist.

Mrs. MaGruder was listed in stable condition Tuesday.

Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger said Tuesday that Mrs. MaGruder acted in self-defense and would not be charged.

Cook, 50, had been fired six months ago from Heathrow Country Club after Mrs. MaGruder complained about his constant phone calls. Mrs. MaGruder had hired Cook to work on her yard last year, but she stopped using him when she became uncomfortable with his attention, Eslinger said.

Of course the news hardly mentioned the story. Some news agencies actually only reported the intruder entered the home with a gun. The left would actually prefer a criminal carry out their crime of rape and murder so they could again point to the evil of the gun but never how a gun can be used to stop a criminal by a private citizen. Of course if they had a gun lock as prescribed by Clinton they would both be dead.
