Brad

I'm suprised that you, as the official Commission ass't. post office gopher should know better. The Commission can issue upgrades on IDX until the table splinters. But the ultimate upgrade, the "CABO",can only be made by that ultimate seer and wiseman. We must wait until the Ratman speaketh.

Mike (been waiting and loading up for this upgrade since '92)

Easy money . . . .

I'm referring to my wife's bet of $5 that IDX won't have any announcements this week.

This is the week of IDX announcements, and there can be plenty. Among the possibilities: (1) The new scanner (and maybe something else); (2) A new OEM (or two); (3) A new strategic partnership (or two); (4) Announcements of new customers via IDT or even Fingerscan.

That link on Gemplus was a surprise. Another nice surprise in an increasingly long series of pleasant surprises. I'll have to check, but it seemed to me that Gemplus had been allied with ABC or some other competitor, along with Entrust. Maybe IDT has knocked that out.

What is the common thread to most of these surprises? I think it is IDT's software . . . it must be the best out there in accuracy and storage size, or we wouldn't be seeing so many good signs. The purchase price for IDT was $42 million, and it will be interesting to see what the IDX market cap is a couple of weeks from now.

As to the stock price, I'm optimistic but would like to throw out a couple of contrary arguments, just to provoke Brad. First, it looks like there is resistance at $12. We can blow through that, but it will eat up some of the buying pressure. Second, it's unclear how much of the present rise over $11 falls into the "buy on the rumor" part of the traditional advice . . . because then they will sell on the news. Third, we could see the shorts try to make a stand to prevent a squeeze, if it gets that far.

Now for a happy thought. . . . At the end of last year I predicted one speculative run in the price. This will be the best chance we have all year, especially if IDX news and/or stock price can generate enough attention to move outside the knowledgeable followers of this industry.

I've been saying for a very long time that IDX was seriously undervalued. It's still seriously undervalued for a very comforting reason. As the stock price has started to go up, the strategic assets of this company have been going up even faster. And in the time value premium of the marketplace, biometrics is just arriving as an investment vehicle. I do see Verisign as the best stock pricing model out there for IDX. VRSN's price increased about ten-fold about six months after it was discovered. With IDX starting to lock up all the important relationships, we can be next.
