Over the last few years as my practice has expanded and I've been able to delegate some responsibility to associates, I've become more active in my son's and daughter's extracurricular activities such as sports, art classes, dance, gymnastics, etc. (My son is quite artistic and my daughter is a natural athelete.) It never ceases to amaze me the number of parents who merely drop the kids off and leave. You learn a lot about your kids by observing them in those types of endeavors. That is a big part of what raising a family is all about. Taking an interest in your kids insures that they grow up to be happy and well adjusted. They want more than a taxi service. You can't buy respect and genuine love and its not the basis for a sound relationship.
