From zdnet.com

If you're still curious why Microsoft didn't back Comcast against AT&T, just look at some raw numbers: A Comcast-MediaOne combination would have given Microsoft access to about 9 million cable subscribers. Compare that to AT&T's 22 million and the decision turned out to a no-brainer.

Plus, Microsoft gets Windows CE on upwards of 10 million set-top
boxes. Speaking of the AT&T deal, the conventional wisdom is that Ma Bell's hammerlock over broadband (@Home and RoadRunner) will doom America Online. Pure overkill. Did anyone ever hear of DSL? Look for AOL to lock up DSL deals with Baby Bells in the months ahead.

The above is from ZDNet.

Re: "With more than ten semiconductor buyouts in the first four months of 1999, it is no surprise that the Silicon Valley grapevine is working overtime on this possible Intel-C-Cube deal."

Intel has been very good in the past at keeping such deals secret. My guess is that if we are hearing about then it's probably not true.
