Thread,
Just recieved my June issue of WORTH, Cover story Lucent's Broadband Strategy.
pg.61-2-3 Refined gonzo from CEO e.g.
Worth: Some believe CSCO is in a better position to deliver broadband networks
RM: Here is a point I want to make: The singular focus of Cisco's business is supplying data networks to enterprise customers. They want to make a big move into the business of supplying similar technoligies to carriers, to internet-service providers, to telephone companies, to wirelesscompanies and the like.

Worth: And won't that pit CSCO against you?
RM:Yes, But they don't compete with us at all in terms of our tremendous position in communications-based semiconductors, They don't compete with us in wireless networks. They don't competewith us in voice communications systems for enterprise customers. They don't compete with us in major software programs to manage far-flung carrier networks.
So you have to think about LU as including, but being much broader than data networking. CSCO did 8.5 bil of business last year. When we complte the ASND aqcuisition we will have 10 bil in annual rev in broadband networking. We already have 30 bil in annual rev pre ASND. No one really addresses the depth of technology, of systems, of software, and of engineering services that we do.

Worth: But isn't CSCO further ahead with IP?
RM:------As a one fingered pecker youall will have to get the dead tree edition unless it's online. there is quite abit more and comments on both co's through out the mag.
