This weeks PC Magazine (paper version) had two articles of interest to Dellheads. The first was a survey of PC buyers about reliability and customer satisfaction. In the home PC field DELL stood ALONE at the top with an outstanding rating. In the work PC's field DELL shared the good rating with Gateway and IBM DELL shares a good rating in notebooks with Gateway, IBM and Micron It is worth noting that Compaq only got a fair rating in all three groups. The second article was about who really designs and builds notebook computers. It seems that DELL notebooks are designed and built in Tiawan by Compal and Quanta. A DELL Inspiron 3500 and a Quantex T-1410 are the same machine. Of course you don't get DELL customer support with a Quantex. All the big notebook sellers produce their machines this way.
