Totally agree. You describe what almost inevitably will happen and is happening in the poker game. I believe the next several years will see a substantial rise in DSL as an intermediate and convenient solution addressing where cable has not yet gone. It will be driven by the impracticality of 33.6 and the ubiquity of an old technology, telephone. There's nothing wrong with an alternative interim intermediate solution until the cable expansion can completely displace copper. No one is justified in claiming that a visual medium shouldn't be dominating by a light carrying transport.
