AOL stock is down for other reasons...not because cable modem is a threat to AOL's business..at least not today. Let's not confuse the issues and the time frames. Look at Yahoo stock price...don't tell me they also have issues with broadband...

I surf the web at home using a 28.8 modem and am perfectly happy. Performance is not noticeably slower than the T1 connection I have at work. It has been stated constantly that the majority of folks surfing the net do not need Cable or DSL. It's those folks who download large amounts of data that really see the benefits of the higher speeds. You are mistaken to think that AOL is an aging dinosaur and wager we won't be hearing much from you and your fellow detractors when AOL leaves the train station. Good luck covering your short and thank you!

Steve

<< I disagree. Have you ever surfed the web using a cable modem?
Try it, and you will see why AOL's stock is going down.>>

Olu, I have tried cable modems and yes indeed it is very fast. But you know what, I live in California and the town I live in was one of the first towns in the country that TCI installed cable in. It has been 3 years since and my town still remains the only town within a radius of 25 miles that has cable. To add to the misery, the cable Laid in my town works well for TV but has problems with the Internet.
Yeah, cable holds a good promise. And that is what it is for now. Their demos look good in show booths. And they are for demos only.

But telephone lines. They always work even if they are slow.

have you ever used DSL? Try it and you will see why AOL will continue to dominate...with or without cable....
This whole this is pointless....If everything works as bullish as anyone hopes for Cable, it doesn't affect AOL growth rate for at least five years...
All players in AOL need to understand this...weather long or short, please understand this is not an issue facing us anytime soon.
