I'm not up on how fractal technology relates to encrypting music and video files, but if it, as you say, will stop current MP3 dead in it's tracks, then jp, back up the truck!

The mad dash to broader bandwidth (the current bidding war for MediaOne, for example) exists because the brains of the entertainment industries see the potential of sending content DIRECTLY to the consumer via the internet. To do that you need huge bandwidth (transfer speeds), compression technology (smaller file size), and copyright (piracy) protection via encryption.
