The mad dash to broader bandwidth (the current bidding war for MediaOne, for example) exists because the brains of the entertainment industries see the potential of sending content DIRECTLY to the consumer via the internet. To do that you need huge bandwidth (transfer speeds), compression technology (smaller file size), and copyright (piracy) protection via encryption. As Meatloaf once sang ". . .two out of three ain't bad . . ."
