Making book recommendations is hazardous to friendship and perhaps to the future of the world. Suppose you don't like my book -- will you think less of me? Remember Rambi's sad mistake on the Hobbit. Would the world be markedly different if she had refused to marry her first husband because she disliked the book? Would this have deprived the world of CW? Is he a world historical figure? Is this the butterfly stamping its foot ih Hawaii? I hate the thought that things are so contingent, unplanned, unevitable. But they are, you know. A farrago. A world of chance. A crapshoot in the void. Take a book in your hand, any book ---- and read!
