Dave, if the harm is remote and unforeseeable, or the instances of harm are so negligible so that they cannot possibly outweigh the benefits involved, then there is not a problem. Again, it is a matter of judgment, and must be submitted to the legislative authorities, to determine if a risk is tolerable or not, with only a few exceptions, where it has been reserved to the courts...

Dave: Excellent analogies! These are the risks of living in a free society which also implies certain responsibilities, something too many are willing to give up to another for less freedoms. Singapore is a good example.

Yes, looking at pornography may inflame someone to commit heinous sex acts upon another unwilling victim but, again, the evidence doesn't support this 'common sense' position. Japan has some of the most outrageous and graphic pornography on the planet but experiences almost no rape or child molestation. Heck, some molesters and rapists are thrown into fits of lust looking at the models in the Sears catalog. Should we outlaw the Sears catalog modeling sections? There is a great deal of evidence to show both child and adult pornography actually lead to less sex crimes due to the release it provides. After all, one doesn't need pictures to have carnal desires but the pictures can help provide the release these criminals would otherwise pursue with real and usually unwilling people.

It's the slippery slope argument and it's valid. Where does society stop with censorship? Look how far censorship has been taken in the fundamentalist moslem societies, whether or nor you're a moslem. I'm willing to accept some unpleasantries if I can live in a free society.
