It depends on how integrated the drives are. If you make changes (install new software) to the SCSI drive via the 'C' drive then the answer is yes, you should backup/restore the drives at the same time.

I'm assuming pretty integrated here on in so I'll just consider them a pair to be dealt with together as one.

The difficult answer is you may not need to do a complete simultaneous backup but you need a thorough understanding of the system to make a differentiated choice.

Well.. we all know what team I,m on<g> I'll stick with complete backups for now and leave the fancy selective stuff to Spots.

I am still unclear on the details..just a second NT in a separate directory on the C: drive with a selection of useful apps?

Yes..and my TA stuff so that I can keep on working in case of prolonged down time. I finished the switch over to the C: drive last nite (and installed 6 more case fans to keep up with the Zeuspauls and the summer heat) so I'll be working on the NT backup today. From you and Spots a dual boot C: sounds good.

Can it be copied from the primary install using NT Explorer or does it require an install from CD? Are apps installed twice? in separate directories?

I hope so..I hope not...and I hope not. Alotta hoping but no real answers yet. I'll review how Spots had me set up the dual boot KOT for some clues. A PM clone is another possibility. But I'll do what I have to do after some further discussion with Spots.

All I do is swap in the Win95/DOS drive and I have a complete new machine. One OS cannot influence another if the OS is sitting on a shelf.

I don't know about that...you'd better keep the removable in one of those lead lined cases to make sure..<gg> I'll have to go back and read MOWA's removeable posts as I have not been keeping up.

A complete backup of the first drive..sitting on a shelf has some appeal to me.(not suggesting in lieu of the second NT install on the C drive)

Me too...thats what I meant when Spots said another complete machine would be best.. true..but barring that the removable on the shelf wouldn't hurt after the second NT install... but when do the layers of redundancy stop?

The problem is there are a lot of good ideas and as Spots has indicated before there is a cost..how many drives do we want kicking around and how do we maintain them?

Exactly... the redundant removable is just food for thought at this point.
