Texaco has very little in China---no gasoline marketing and only a
few joint-venture exploration/production projects. It is not
included in the five foreign upstream focus areas mentioned
on page 32 on the 1998 Texaco Annual Report. It wouldn't
hurt Texaco one way or the other to exit China now. They would
just lose uncertain potential profits 10-20 years down the road.
