Are you out of your mind? In the early 70's-before the Vietnam war ended I was involved in installing TCI cable and marketing the product. Sometimes less then 10 channels were in the offering. These cables and other hardware are still hanging on the telephone poles. This is old, old hardware. WE would be better off replacing this with fiber optics. For God's sake, cable is there. That is why they want to use it. San Jose has A-B cable. It is so old that they had to run a second line to carry the extra channels. Can you imagine this folks?
To get anything but local channels, I have to get off my dead butt and go over to the TV and hit the B button to get ESPN, CNBC or CNN. All for $34.99 and going up. I only pay that to see Joe when I come home from work. Do you actually think that a company like AOL will turn into a shrinking violet because there is this assumption that coaxial is the wave of the future?

JEER: RE: "On overvaluation analysts"...I love a good Rambler (my first car was a Rambler with the seats that went all the way down, kinda like a bed-on-wheels...a 16 year old's dream) But a good ramble, that it well thought out whether one agrees or disagrees is nothing to apologize for. Stay the course boobeleh. (Lee).

This is a fine analysis, jeer. I certainly agree with your view that the hyper-valuations placed upon some new-economy stocks will fade and that older, established companies will appreciate in value as they come to be seen as players in the new economy. T and IBM are two of my favorites for this. I also like WMT and NOVL as underappreciated plays on the new economy.

It's truly astonishing how long the extreme speculative bubble in the new breed of Net companies has lasted; and, despite recent choppiness, I think this bubble will revive itself and live on awhile longer. A lot of people have lost a lot of money buying companies like BAMM and SKYM at highs, and yet the flow of cash into the sector has remained strong. How many more fools will show up on the scene? I think that is the question we all have in mind as we trade in and out of this sector. When the fools stop coming out to play, then we'll see the valuations compress in a hurry. Until then, who knows what the limits are? The sector has already far exceeded my wildest expectations for what it could do--.
