Ray, thanks for a reasoned, well thought out post. You're right that volume usually precedes price and that volume also frequently precedes news. But not always. I'm not a penny stock person but I am aware that there has been more than a little hyping going on in BB stocks recently. I think that's why some folks play the penny stocks - because a stock can go up for no other reason than hype. So they buy dormant shares, wait until the hype cycle gets to their stock and they sell into the buying.

If there's news then, fine, we then know why the buying occurred. If there is no news....Well, we know what that means too. Time will tell but I'm from Missouri. Paul Goldstein, a smart investor if I've ever seen one, knew what he was looking for and acted when he saw it. Apparently so did others which is why the stock is less than half its Friday high.
