Actually, we were looking at a $3,600 system from Gateway w/ 22G storage(!) and a 36" monitor(!!!!). For someone who actually had to develop software 20 years ago on a 300 baud modem with thermal printer, dumb terminal, and also on a paper tape punch, where we literally patched our programs with a scissors and splicing tape, these systems are nothing short of miraculous, and a pure joy.

That's one of the interesting things about this DSL I just got. I'm running on a 2 year, 166 mhz system, and until now, there was no motivation to upgrade. I could even run Oracle on this system, along with Netscape, with no problem. As broadband catches on, as I think it must in some form, I believe it will tend to drive sales in all other areas, too.

Thanks for the tip, though. We'll be looking at all these options before buying.

Regards,
Tom
