Michael - well put - this war is a problem legally and morally. The problem I have with the second part of course is that we are dealing with an immoral dictator - however we should also be aware that if you decide to exercise massive power in a powder keg like this you should have some idea of the end game - and it seems we are making a lot of this up as we go along. As for the loss of life of 'American boys' - I do agree with you - but there is something obscene in entering into a war like this where we can contemplate taking many lives - but cringe at the consequences of losing even one of ours - as if one American (or NATO) life is worth 10,000 of theirs - ditto for Iraq. High tech wars are like TV wars - it doesn't seem real somehow, and we can't face up to the prospect of body bags. So I agree with the comment that by signaling that we were not prepared to carry out this campaign with ground troops we have cut the legs from under the generals - who must be cursing the pols with every breath.
