David: yes, I build the MACD "by hand" with a fast and slow average. I'm doing this in RealTick III - that's where I get the 1-hour bars.

I find that the timing is pretty good, actually. I don't ask why, since it works.

I find that using 1-hour bars is good for timing swings that last from 1-3 days. Using daily bars is good for longer swings, of from a few days to a couple of weeks.
