You are correct as regards the 80960 being a descendant of the iAPX432 project. The 80860 was pretty much a new RISC architecture - with very deep pipelines - from the ground up. It died for an obvious reason - Intel's approach was to improve the x86 architecture and fend off all other RISC machines. It essentially killed its own RISC (80860) in the process. Paul
