To All, High Tech Strategist Review. In general, an outstanding issue with some good, original thoughts.

1. Fred starts off with a broadside at internut stock valuation. My favorite comment was that Amazon.Com was going to lose even more money due to investment in infrastructure. He noted that lack of costly infrastructure was the reason why these cos. were supposed to eventually make money. <g>

2. As a long time bond market vigilante and lynch mob leader, I was glad that Fred noted that we were doing the job Alan Greenspan has abdicated. <g>

3. He noted that the much touted, by the brain dead bulls, "great pc sales" in Europe, with units up 20.5%, ended up being a 3.6% revenue decline.

4. April was a stinko month for pc sales, much worse than March, which was just lousy.

5. He noted something I'd previously talked all around but never quite grasped. The vendor with the worst sequential decline in pc sales from 4Q to 1Q was IBM. I knew they were worse than Compaq and Gateway, but hadn't really trotted out numbers from MUEI and Dell. This was the great turnaround the bulls trumpeted a few weeks back. Also, the pc division at big blue went from profits to losses during that quarter. However, Hickey warns that IBM will try all sorts of tricks to make this next number and they have some good ones up their sleeves.

6. He had a good laugh at Hewlett CEO Platt's quickly retracted lie about their good pc sales.

7. He also thinks this is likely to be the quarter of Intel's "accident." I agree.

8. He sees problems at Dell this quarter. If April is weaker than March, and 1Q unit growth was 6% weaker than 4Q unit growth, through March, according to Dataquest numbers, then Dell is in deep kimshee.

An excellent read, highly recommended.
