uncle,

Read my post to Richard Habib. INTC has said they will support SDRAM in Camino chipset, you do know this don't you? We initially were lead to believe that Camino would not support SDRAM, weren't we? Well it does now. Also, Samsung is the only DRAM manufacturer that has made it clear they are focusing on RDRAM production. The rest, IMO, seem to care less about it. They will produce if they have to, and won;t if they don't....

So my point is that things change and they could change for the better or worse. I guess, it is just a matter of opinion and "best guess" at the future. Some talking head said it best, IMO, when he said RMBS is the ultimate gamblers stock, they will win big or not win at all....

uncle, this is why I have been lurking. I am not adding any value to the thread. One may read a press release or article and deduce that the future looks very bright and another may see nothing very concrete at all..

It is just a matter of opinion, that's all.

Regards,

MileHigh

uncle,

Let's test my hypothesis and your comment about all the bullish news out on RMBS lately...Read Barrett's response (4/26) and tell me what your reaction is. There is no right or wrong answer, just your take away from reading it. Your choices are:

A. Strong endorsement
B. Mild endorsement
C. A Hedge statement
D. Wishy washy

I chose D. Actually a hybrid B/D-- a wishy washy mild endorsement.

EBN: It's been well documented that Rambus' licensees are having some problems making the new Direct Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) parts. Can you shed some light on that as well as the "Direct Rambus DRAM versus PC133 DRAM" debate?

Barrett: We are still very excited about the prospects of RDRAMs. But it will basically be an issue of availability, cost and performance. We had hoped that [the RDRAMs] would be available about mid-year. That looks like it will slip to the third quarter. [But this] really depends on whether the DRAM suppliers who are supplying RDRAM can produce the product at the right speed at the right cost. If they are not able to compete with the 133-MHz SDRAM or whatever the alternatives are, then it could be a real challenge. But we still think that RDRAM has a strong technical capability.
