Black-Scholes,>>>China's Government is pathetic. They're unworthy to be considered anything more than a third world Government. It's a shame. <<< They don't have a monopoly on the pathetic and on the shameful. To a certain extent, you can't blame them for acting paranoid. Look at what we are doing to an American Citizen of Taiwanese descent who happens to be a scientist at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories. From William F. Buckley to Don Imus, they are insinuating that this man should be hung for giving away nuclear weapons secrets to the Chinese government. Is there any proof whatsoever? From what I can tell it is all paranoid nonsense sweeping across the US media initiated most egregiously by the New York times. 1. This guy is Taiwanese who's homeland is potentially poised for destruction with the very secrets that he is alleged to be passing to the Mainland Chinese. 2. The FBI, CIA, and DOE has been watching this guy for years - so if he has received any kind of compensation, they would have known about it. There does not appear to be any motive. Further, the FBI has acknowledged that in fact, his wife has gathered intelligence information for them in the 1980's. Moreover, this man has not been charged with any wrong doing in connection with spying. There has been absurd allegations of transferring files from computer to computer and renaming files. According to his lawyers, none of these files were classified and he had legal authority to access these files, and according to standard procedure to rename these files after he made modifications to them. What I am saying is - if this man is guilty of spying, we should prosecute him to the full extent of the law - even execution - if proven. However, if the New York Times is making absurd allegations against a US citizen, then we should bring the full force of the law to bear against the NY Times. If they are falsly accusing or making false insinuation against one American citizen (to support hidden editorial objectives) and get away with it (even though he may be a member of a very small minority in our country), then none of us are safe from this type of abuse of power. BTW, the Los Alamos scientist has volunteered to take lie detector tests and has passed it. There is currently absolutely no evidence and no reason to even to suggest that this man is or was a spy for Mainland China - other than the fact that he doesn't look like the rest of us. For his sake, I hope he has lived a clean life because if he has any hidden secrets - regardless of what it relates to - they will be dragged out and made to look like the New York Times was right all along. China and the Chinese may indeed have reasons to be paranoid. Mary Cluney
