Andrew and Michelle : re Tony Blair

William Buckler's characterisation of current the current Anglo-US
relationship is pretty accurate, although to imply that Blair is left wing is misleading.

Blair has moved the Labour Party to a centrist position in the political spectrum, and IMO. is barely distinguishable from the Conservative administration of John Major, Thatchers successor.

At least the British poodle has teeth, which is more than cn be said about our other NATO allies

AC and thread -

On all major issues deemded to concern the security of either of Britain or the US, Britain stands together with the US, side by side, through thick and thin....period. No discussion.

So far as Britains contribution all I would say is that you need to ask senior US military and I feel sure they will confirm that British contribution is a lot more than appears on the surface. The history of Desert Storm will confirm. The British have all sorts of 'hidden' assets on the ground in all sorts of places..enough said.

The British do not proclaim their military, they are very understated and they don't particularly care if they get insulted becuase of it. The British are most peculiar, if you push them too far they will take their bulldog stand and fight no matter what the odds look like.

I think you will find that the Germans, not to mention the French, the Norwegians, the Italians, the Dutch, the Poles, the Danes, the Luxembourgers, the Czechs, the Slovaks, the Rumanians, the Belgians, the Greeks, the Turks and the Hungarians for example do not think that the British are to be compared with a poodle.

The US will support the British in precisely the same way viz US support to Britain in the Falklands War.

So long as this Speical Relationship continues so will the US and Britain and our civilization be much the better and safer for it.

Best regards,

L
