While I don't necessary disagree with some of your points about XSNI I just couldn't resist giving my opinion. Since I'm currently using an ISP (NETZERO) that is free (several phone numbers in my local area) and appears to be growing into a major provider, I personally believe that eventually, with the continuing growth of EComerce, free ISP's may be the norm rather than the exception. EComerce companies are willing to pay more now for advertising on the web than say even two years ago because they are able to reach more and more new customers. The budget within my company for internet advertising has substantially grown within the last two years, and the results we have seen have been very good.

I did check out this company (XSNI) and have found nothing to indicate that they intended to offer "free" internet service within the US. Maybe they intend to expand within other oversea markets. They do "appear" to have good financial backing, but without the ability to check out their sources it certainly presents to many questions.
