NEW INVESTORS: Spread is wide, so just put in order below the ask. When the MM's spread out the Bid/Ask they are trying to dissuade people from taking action (either that or they want to get people to pay a little too much). They often want to keep volume low and figure some will get impatient and eventually sell their stock at bargain prices. Then when news comes out the MM's will be sitting with cheap stock. Often what I do is put in an order below the ask and it often gets filled eventually.
