- About 10 years ago, GE got out of everything they weren't at least #2 in

- Many of the industries GE stayed in, such as power plants, have tremendous barriers to entry.

- So yes - GE is not selling a commodity

- MSFT, like GE, is protected in the sense that Linux or any other compeitor would have to ante up $billions to pose a real threat.
