This is a good response to the fear promoters of GM technology. Science and agriculture have been developing and using sterility technology in many profitable forms including the development of mules, seedless melons and citrus and hybrid grains. Seedless watermelons sell for a 20-30% premium because that is what the consumer wants. In the western part of the US, about 70% of the melon crop is seedless. Mules helped power agriculture in the South. Availability of a seedless or sterile agricultural commodity does not mean loss of farmer rights; it merely expands our ability to feed people.
