<< When the KM story began to wane and prices began to consistently erode, there were plenty of sign posts, both fundamental and TA based, to permit exit right through the summer of 1997. >>

Extremely interesting post, Ed. But - very minor correction - actually KM remained a coin flip until early January of "98. But I sure do agree that fundamentals ( shrinking sales) and TA ( even to my untrained eye ) were shrieking warnings all through the long summer of decline. I personally hung on ( with a cost basis then..lower now.. of 2.625) because I thought it likely KM would sell ...I thought they would win the Mitsubishi case ( and the two others) and I thought DST growth would kick in + I never began to expect the precipitous fall of DCR sales. Poor judgement on all counts, but it is hard to predict EVERYTHING going bad at the same time. More interesting story now though.

Volume is low this AM. Could be a good opportunity for the specialists to take out stop losses. I put in some orders to buy at 3.5 just in case. <G>

Ed, I've always appreciated your posts, especially in the lowest period (stock at $1 or less), so it's good to get another thoughtful analysis from you...you are a DA, Doctor of Ampexology! However, some of the 'Olds' may still be around, I still have some AXC shares that I bought at 9 5/16, not many thank God, but why sell them if they are parked in an IRA and the value goes to 1? No sense in selling at that level, the money wouldn't buy much of anything else... And, because of continued interest (ok, really worry) about those "worthless" stocks, I started learning a lot about AXC (many thanks to the SI thread) and now I'm very happy with a much larger stake at a much lower price. Which brings me to your points about the history of the stock price ranges...I think this time around may not be quite the same as before because it really is a much different company now..becoming somekind of empire, not just the best technology boys. And I think the upside price will appear much faster in this cycle because of the "Plan". I really think that some leaks will begin soon because of the upscale annual meeting on the 28th. I plan to be there and fully expect to hear and see some major news that will not just be confined to PR releases and stockholders. Finally, I agree with you that the caliber of people signing on portends something bigger and more controlling than spinning IPO's. All of these people could go almost anywhere in the world and get the same or more money to do whatever they want to do.....so there is a very big compelling reason for them to be signing on with a "noname" tape storage company!! I'm buying more under 4! Lurknid, limpnid, CMM
