A $280 1-year target is entirely reasonable

Dono about that. It he and everyone else were thinking one year, everyone else would have sold @220 on 4/28/99.

William do you have anything that says the $280 target was set based on auction revenue only.

BTW I am puzzled about the whole auction thing at amzn. I think they might have been working on auctions as a part of their multi=storefront offering, where they could offer actions to retailers interested in becoming amazon parters or something, I wonder if hitting ebay direct-on was the intial intention for an auction site. Just thinking out loud.

Where did she say 'next qtr'? The WSJ reported 'Ms. Covey cautioned that the auction business isn't likely to be a major contributor to Amazon's revenue for some time and added that "it does require significant investment."'

'for some time' is longer that a qtr, and maybe longer than a year, but it really looks like she has no idea how long it will take.

The $280 1yr target was based on auction revenue, therefore this target is no longer reasonable, please tell me why you think it is (based on the reason for DLJ's target)

Maybe you have different information, but Mary Meeker has amzn as "outperform" in the May 6 issue of MS research. That is only one step away from their lowest rating.
