kapkan4u - <When I said P5 I meant it. I was comparing K6 to Pentium not Pentium II. I should have expressed myself more clearly>

Nope. My fault. You clearly stated "had". I guess I somewhat fail to see the relevance of the comparison though. Intel didn't have to try to ramp the Pentium to >400MHz. AMD did have to try and ramp the K6 to beyond 400.

What we really need are some K7 and CuMine benchmarks to see how this is going to play out. We will have to wait a bit longer for these. But I suspect that the CuMine iteration of the P6 on .18 will compete nicely with the K7. AMD will technically have an MHz lead if they announce a 600MHz part in June, but my sources indicate that any 600's will be in extremely low volume, if even existent at announcement. Also, the chipset question for K7 still looms large, e.g., yes AMD may have the K7 out the door in June, but I will be quite curious to see what unit volume in systems is for the first few months after introduction. Conversely, Intel will have a 550MHz part out in volume formally next week with no support chip problems. (Actually, you can get a hold of them now. How many thousands would you like to buy? <G>).

With regard to your overall analysis, I personally believe you are giving AMD a very big benefit of the doubt, and not giving Intel enough benefit of the doubt. But, this is the AMD thread, and I'm sure you will have plenty of support of your views also. Welcome to SI.
