Daily OTC derivatives turnover reaches $1.26 tril.

Daily turnover in foreign exchange and interest rate derivatives
contracts traded over the counter amounted to an estimated $1,265
billion in April 1998, according to a report released Sunday by the
Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
The monthly figures, which were converted into daily average on
the assumption of 18.5 trading days in 1995 and 20.5 trading days in
1998, represented a 66% growth from April 1995 in constant dollar
terms, the BIS said in a triennial report.

Australia Reserve Bank says NO plans to sell gold:

SYDNEY, May 10 (Reuters) - The Reserve Bank of Australia said on Monday it had no plans to sell further gold from its reserves.

The central bank had said when it announced plans for sales two years ago that it had no plans to reduce its gold holdings further, and confirmed on Monday that its position had not changed since then.
