Watch the nomenclature here, what you need is dual band.

I need dual mode since Sprint PCS's footprint does not
yet cover my residence calling area.

Dual mode is an 800 MHz only phone (not PCS frequency!) which will work in both Analog (AMPS) and Digital (CDMA a.k.a. IS-95) modes. I think EVERY 800 MHz cellular CDMA phone is dual mode, although eventually the demand for these will decline.

Dual-band means the phone will work both at PCS frequencies (1900 MHz) in CDMA digital mode, but it will also work at cellular frequencies (800 MHz) in analog mode. This allows you to have SPRINT PCS as your primary service, but to still be able to place calls as a roamer when you are out of SPRINT's still-expanding footprint.

There are very few dual-band phones, if you look at sprintpcs.com you will see, I believe, only two offered.
