You could go to the local Home Depot and "troll," kinda like trying to get picked up at the singles bar. Except that the guy might get the wrong idea. Just go in the daytime, look for a man who isn't wearing an orange apron, but make sure you pick out one that looks busy, intelligent, and not like a lawyer on his day off. Ask for simple advice. I have met more handymen that way.

Ask a real estate agent you trust for a handyman referral. That's how we found ours and we couldn't be happier with his work. He always comes in below his estimate, which is reasonable in the first place, and his work is top notch.
