"This seems to be good news. But there is a downside to all of the OEM announcements--Sandisk is unlikely to ever create a *brand* when it sells most of the its products through OEM arrangements."

Jim -

I'm not sure that I care. I'll be happy to let people have their Kodak Moments even if they are unaware that the moment is thanks to a SanDisk card. I think it's great that the 800-pound gorilla of analog film has chosen us to provide it with the digital equivalent.

This is good news for all digital camera users, regardless of camera make, because it indicates that 64mb will become a low cost upgrade. Even though SanDisk is not playing up its brand, neither did Intel play up its x86 processors until it got around to the Pentium. One of these days, SNDK might just surprise us with a great brand name, such as ---- inside!

Jim,

Kodak has been playing SanDisk off against Lexar by using their cards alternatively as newer Kodak digital models are released. That is part of the fear that OEM's have...being reliant on a single vendor.

I think that any action that potentially limits the choice of vendors to OEM's or creates a distinct price advantage in SNDK's favor will be received poorly. I hope that Lexar agrees to pay a reasonable sum and that fair competition continues. Afterall, without Lexar we wouldn't have cards with write speeds of 1.4 MB/sec.

In any case, none of us will ever learn the terms of the settlement, but we can always hope and dream.
